A Big Thank You to Pinellas Community Foundation, Rotary Club of Dunedin, READ Pinellas, and the Publix Foundation

The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas recently received several grants to support its various literacy efforts.

LCUP received a grant from the Pinellas Community Foundation which will support supplies for tutor training events, snacks and supplies for conversation classes, LCUP?s annual tutor appreciation event,
a News for You subscription, and outreach efforts.

The organization also received a grant from the Rotary Club of Dunedin to purchase bilingual books. These books will be used to fill the Little Free Library in front of Dunedin Elementary School.

READ Pinellas provided funding for LCUP to purchase the online reading program, ESL Reading Smart, for students to continue studying English at home.

Additionally, LCUP received a grant from the Publix Foundation to provide snacks and supplies for conversation classes.

NEW LITTLE FREE LIBRARY IN DUNEDIN

Dunedin has its 17th Little Free Library, thanks to a cooperative project involving the Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas, Dunedin Library Foundation and Dunedin Elementary School. The little library, which is located in front of Dunedin Elementary School, was recently dedicated. LCUP wrote a grant, funded by the Publix Foundation, to stock the library with both English and bilingual books (English and Spanish).

The Little Free Library allows students and residents in the area to take a book, read it, and return it, or place another book in the box for others to read.

Volunteers from LCUP teach an ESL conversation class for parents of students at Dunedin Elementary School on Tuesday mornings.
