The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas (LCUP) is hosting a free training session for literacy volunteers on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Dunedin Community Center, 1920 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin, Florida, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization, which is dedicated to helping adults in Northern Pinellas County to read, write and speak English.
This six-hour training is required for all tutors. This training provides tutors with the initial tools to help improve the literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) of adults who are English-speaking and those who are non-English-speaking. Tutors must be 21 years of age or older and interested in improving someone’s life by serving as a volunteer tutor. Prior teaching experience or fluency in another language is not required, but a good command of the English language and grammar is required. Basic computer experience is helpful.
